Pocket-Crawler
PREVIEW | Author: Scott Vanderheyden

The role-playing dungeon-crawler genre isn’t a stranger to Apple devices.  In a heavily oversaturated genre, it can be difficult to find a unique title that offers something that hasn’t been done before.  Developer Tasty Poison Games’ Pocket RPG, set to be released on the iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch, offers plenty of customization options to role-playing fans who want the ultimate dungeon-crawling experience.

Pocket RPG (iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch)

Pocket RPG’s main selling point is its randomized dungeons.  Each dungeon is designed to last about thirty minutes, allowing gamers to either get a quick fix or play for long sessions.  Further replayability comes in the form of three selectable classes: Blade Master, Battle Mage and Dark Ranger.  Each class not only offers a different play experience, but a different user interface as well.  Blade Masters focus on hack and slash gameplay, Battle Mages on area of effect spells, and the Dark Ranger class plays like a dual-stick shooter in which one stick moves the character and the other controls the direction the character is facing and firing.

Regardless of the chosen class, players will combat enemies, perform combos and, like all dungeon-crawlers, loot anything possible.  Weapons and armor will even be represented in the physical world, altering your character's appearance. Finally, players will be able to play frustration-free in the Arcade Play difficulty (which includes save points) or they can ramp up the challenge significantly in Rogue Play (permanent death).

Pocket RPG

Although Pocket RPG will be released on iPad initially, all versions of the dungeon-crawler will be available on the App Store in December.
