Time to Tackle Domestic Terrorism
It's not easy hunting terrorists. You have to gather intelligence, travel across the globe, and infiltrate the enemy base. For over ten years, the crew of Rainbow 6 has been doing the dirty work in order to keep the gaming world safe. Recently, the terrorists have been looking for attacks on American soil. In the last iteration of Tom Clancy's Rainbow 6, the city of Las Vegas was a prime target. But with all these terrorist cells across the globe, Rainbow 6 has yet to face a threat like their newest opponent.
Enter a new breed of enemy. They call themselves the "True Patriots". The manner in which they work is cruel to say the least. The True Patriots attack American citizens and use them to spread their message. They can turn a fat-cat banker into a human bomb. They can turn an ordinary stock broker into an explosion heading towards Times Square. These villains appear to be cruel and calculating individuals, but in reality they are ordinary citizens fed up over the current situation. The wealthy 1% is living up the good life, while the rest of the country wallows in recession. But as with all terrorist cells, they have to be stopped for peace to prevail.
In Tom Clancy's Rainbow 6 Patriots, the player tackles this domestic threat. All the familiar tricks of Rainbow 6 are expected to return. For gamers used to running and gunning, they may want to set the controller down and slow down. Unlike Call of Duty or Halo, the game features its distinct tactical style. Players are expected to sneak around and take out enemies silently.
With the return of the old, comes in the new. Just as a new type of enemy appears, Ubisoft is treating players to a different kind of campaign in Tom Clancy's Rainbow 6 Patriots. Players are given moral choices that will affect the game. Remember that stock broker running towards Times Square? As leader of Rainbow 6, do you take him out? Or do you take your chances and attempt to disable the bomb? An early video of Patriots gives us a glimpse of what's in the future. However, right now, all we can do is wait to see if Ubisoft can deliver.
If you're worried the game consists of a single-player story, feel free to let all that go. For players eager to jump into fray with some buddies, Ubisoft assures everyone that multiplayer will make an appearance. Whether or not the modes will be new like the campaign remains to be seen.
There are a lot of details missing for Tom Clancy's Rainbow 6 Patriots. Part of the reason is that the game's release date is some time in 2013. Nonetheless, Ubisoft gave the world of gaming something to look forward to. For players that like to think before they shoot, look out for this title in the future.
Chris started playing games at the tender age of 5. Since then, he sees mushrooms, hearts, aliens, and spikey-haired blondes in his sleep.
