Really, I am a Stuntman!

Joe Danger: The Movie is an upcoming "sequel" to a 2010 PlayStation Network / Xbox LIVE downloadable game from Hello Games. After the moderate success with the game, especially once it hit Xbox LIVE, Hello Games began to run ads for new developers, and the project gained two for a total of six of them for Joe Danger: The Movie. The original was a racing game, and this one sort of is as well, but with a twist. Joe has proven himself as a driver, and now he's trying to be a successful stuntman at a movie studio.

The game is played on movie sets, and Joe must do several cliché stunts in this new job. However, it’s not as easy as drive, slid, jump. There are lots of obstacles Joe must avoid to get a high score. Not only that, but this time around there are several "vehicle" choices. I use the term loosely because Joe Danger: The Movie not only has cars but also skis, a unicycle, a bicycle, and a jetpack. In fact, the game is set to offer about 20 vehicles total.

Many of the movie scenes will nod at famous movies: a mine cart race like in the Indiana Jones films and a spy run for the James Bond fans.  It’s rumored that there will be 20 to 40 playable characters and around 100 levels.  Of course, the official site isn’t giving concrete details of the game so that could change by the time Joe Danger: The Movie releases.

This game will also have players performing stunts to get points while trying to stay in the lead with your time and collecting items. You can even grab the letters to spell DANGER, which will earn you new collectibles. Each vehicle will prove a challenge to accomplishing these feats, at least until you figure out how to control it.

Since this game is big on competition, gamers will play against friends or other online players. You will want to get a high score on every level, which will be displayed on a global leaderboard. If someone is not around to play with, a ghost player can be challenged instead. If you are playing against someone, you will see a shadow image of them as you wend around the track.

While there will be around 100 levels, you might get bored with them (yeah right), and Hello Games has come up with a way for you to relieve that boredom: a level editor called The Toybox comes with Joe Danger: The Movie. This is what the developers have used to create their own levels, and it's actually a way for those who want to put their own spin on the game to try it out. Not only that, but creators will be able to upload their levels for other people to try out, and they can be designed as single-player or multiplayer tracks! The developers will even continue to create and upload their own tracks.

Announced in August 2011, a set release date has not been given yet. Even the official site just says "Sometime in 2012".  Whether that means they are still fine-tuning it or just waiting for the perfect time... well, who knows!  Either way, Joe Danger: The Movie looks to be lots of fun.

I have been gaming since I was in high school, before it was acceptable for a girl to do it. I have been a writer for even longer. It's only natural the two would combine. I prefer RPGs, action/adventure, and strategy games, but I also play dancing, sports titles, and shooters.
