Up We Go!
There’s a mobile game that has had me hooked for the last few days. Truth be told, I hadn’t run out of battery so many times in a row with my iPod Touch, but I just find this game hard to put down. Bounce On Up is not a sequel, but a spin-off based on the popular iOS saga named Bounce On. The guys at Team Phobic had the great idea to put together a fun arcade game that everyone can enjoy this holiday season, and they’ve done it right with Bounce On Up.
This charming Christmas-themed game will immediately remind you of the popular iPhone game Doodle Jump, and that’s because the main premise is the same: you bounce your way up as far as you can, jumping from platform to platform without falling, and employing power-ups in order to reach new heights. However, there’s a lot more to Bounce On Up. The game’s platforms are colored in red, blue, or green, and the best way to rack up the points as you climb up is hopping consecutively onto as many platforms of the same color as you can. A colored star on the top left corner displays the current combo status, and when you finally jump on a different colored surface, you’ll cash in major points. That is, if you’ve learned to master this technique.

- Bounce on the same color and you're in for a treat -
The controls are extremely simple and accessible for anyone. All you have to do is tilt your iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad to the left or to the right. “Bouncy”, as I like to call the main character, takes care of the bouncing. Some platforms have power-ups waiting for you, namely the jetpack, the ninja belt, and the angel wings. The first one is activated when you tap and hold your finger over the screen. You can only use it for a limited amount of time, but if you learn to save up some juice and only use it for smaller leaps, it will prove to be very handy. The ninja belt is fun to use; if you tap the screen, the character will launch upwards from wherever he is, even if he was still in the air. The angel wings protect you for a limited period of time. If you were to fall to your death, the wings will launch you right back up and very, very far. This gives you enough time to recover and find the perfect platform to land on. Of course, one has to be careful, because hovering enemies abound, and they’ll have no problem to finish your game if you don’t dodge them quickly.
With all the strategy there’s to it, I’m sure people will just keep on playing Bounce On Up for a long time, and I can just imagine the major competition that will take place between friends and relatives to get a higher score. It’s happened to us already!

- Gotta love the jetpack action! -
We don’t know if Bounce On 3 is in the works or if it will ever be made, but we love the idea of seeing the little “Bouncy” guy take on different roles and bring up new challenges. With games like these, how could you go wrong? Look for Bounce On Up to hit the App Store around the 15th of this month, free with ads, or you can pay to remove them - your choice!
