The Explosive Insanity Continues... On the Moon! (E3 2014 Preview)
One of the titles I had the most fun with at E3 was Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel! Taking place between Borderlands 1 and 2, the Pre-Sequel! (you're either going to love or hate that title) will bring players to the zero-g environment of a moon.
The Pre-Sequel! first and foremost, feels and looks like a Borderlands game. However, the new zero-gravity setting adds a sort of Tribes Ascend feel to the entire game. With the ability to leap high into the air in a large, floating arc, you can quickly just how much this will add to the gameplay. In the Pre-Sequel! you'll spend a lot of time up in the air, reigning chaos down upon your enemies as you soar across the map in a single bound. The devs have also given players the ability to drop to the ground like a rock, thus causing more damage. This dropdown ability can also be fused with elemental attack powers, so there are plenty of combos and ways to utilize this into a quite fun mess of tricks.
Cryo weapons are also new addition which enable you to freeze your enemies so they can be shattered. A laser canon also makes an appearance, and I have to say, I fell in love with it right away. Assist attack drones will also will show up to aid you in battle too. Since the environment is atmosphere-free, you'll also have to make sure you find enough O2 to keep going. Don't worry, it wasn't frustrating, or annoying, and just added a nice little challenge during battle and really mixed things up. I can't wait to see how much chaos this causes during multi-player matches!
The level I got to try was filled with stomping moon-beasts and plenty of non-stop, crazy insanity the other Borderlands games have made legendary at this point. Fans of Borderlands and Borderlands 2 are going to be happy with the Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel!, as it will offer enough gameplay change to really freshen things up without letting go of the Borderlands feel. The Pre-Sequel! will be released on October, 14, 2014 for PC, PS3, and Xbox 360.
Three things describe Rando: Good beer, good food, and video games. On occasion, Rando flies a zeppelin through time seeking power crystals.
