Dawn of a New Age (E3 2014 Preview)
Dragon Age has always been to me a sort of revitalization and reboot of the isometric 90s RPGs that came to the forefront after the release of the now legendary Baldur's Gate. While the first Dragon Age is nearing classic legend status itself, it was interesting to get a glimpse at this E3 about what the newest in the series, Dragon Age: Inquisition, would be like.
From what we saw, it’s easy to get excited about this new Dragon Age, but it leaves a lot of questions unanswered and a lot of mysteries only to be ‘promised’ or ‘mentioned’ to us. With that said, here is what fans might expect.
There is going to be a focus on really reshaping the path, dialogues, and actions players take, opening up the world to Skyrim levels of gameplay, and making all those actions effect outcomes. A massive amount of endings have been promised (around 40) and a revamp of the romance/relationships systems is happening. It seems that player choices and actions will be a big part in the experience, working on the groundwork which has been there in the past and expanding it.
The plot takes generic high-fantasy, but ramps it up and manipulates it in such a way that Inquisition is a much darker and torrid world. You play the Inquisitor, in charge of taking down a group of mages. There are going to a be a ton of character to pick from too, so be prepared for the largest Dragon Age yet.
Other new additions include crafting, a sandbox styled map/questing, and of course, it looks simply stunning graphically. It looks like a Dragon Age game come into the new generation, still catering (as it should) to turn-based RPG gamers. The UI looks intuitive and quick, and those new to the game should pick up on it fairly quick.
What we saw was exciting, and looking to fix a lot of issues fans had with Dragon Age 2. We’ll find out how it turned out on October 7th when Dragon Age: Inquisition is released on PC, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and PlayStation 3 and 4.
