5 Unforgettable Sony PlayStation Exclusives
As much as we try, there are games that we just can't get out of our heads. They're not just any game; they're titles and sagas that have made an impact on us and have made PlayStation video game consoles stronger. Some just passed by, leaving a mark with just one entry, and others continue to enrich the experiences of PS2, PSP, and PS3 gamers to this day. Here are my choices:
I don’t think any PS3 fan has gotten over this one. A beautiful girl with hair as long as Bayonetta but bright red like fire, an almighty sword, spectacular scenarios, memorable characters, exciting boss battles, and a moving story – Heavenly Sword had it all. Or so we thought. Ninja Theory’s PS3 baby was a promising action / adventure title with tremendous power. Only one thing made it suffer: the length of the campaign, the one and only play mode available for those who spent their hard-earned cash on the game. If they were to make a sequel at least twice as long, I bet it would sell like hotcakes amongst PS3 fans. Now that there’s a huge installed base, there’s no doubt in my mind that it’d do well.
Luckily this saga has a more promising future, with a sequel coming to the PS3 in just a few months. Still, there was some doubt for a while, and we’re happy things turned out well for Sucker Punch after all. A game that makes you feel ever-so-powerful, controlling electricity with your own hands is something you can never forget. inFAMOUS brought unique aspects to a genre that had become too formulaic in recent years. Making your way around a cool city on rails, climbing buildings and shooting at enemies from vantage points, and charging up with electricity to unload it on those who threaten you makes you feel like a god… or the devil, because you can choose the good or the evil path, which makes the gameplay even more interesting. Gotta love this one!
People couldn’t believe it when they got their hands on the first Uncharted game, but the awe-inspiring graphics of this Indiana Jones-inspired title were enough to suck you into the story and not let you go. Add some frantic shooting to the engaging storyline along with the outstanding platforming mechanics and you got a winner! It’s no wonder Naughty Dog is now working on the third installment, and as if that wasn’t enough, they have one coming for Sony’s next handheld, the NGP! Looks like Nathan Drake will keep busy for a while… and we’ll make sure his “contract” is renewed!
God of War
Yes, I know! This is an obvious one, and if PlayStation had a single flagship saga, it had to be this one. Sony’s God of War is a series of epic proportions. And we’re talking epic as in one of the biggest mythology-inspired sagas ever made. Sure, there’s plenty of made-up content here, but Kratos’ story is utterly engaging and fascinatingly crude. The kind of action, gore, character progress, and enemy fights found here is tough to match by any other video game series. Many have tried to replicate it, but few have managed to obtain half the success this one has had. If it depends on us, we’ll be happy to welcome new God of War titles for years to come, as long as they’re spaced out enough that the excitement doesn’t wear off.
This one belongs to the overgrown genre of first-person shooters, yet it’s managed to make a difference. Between its alien invasion storyline, high-tech weaponry, exciting vehicular combat, character classes, electrifying online play, and jaw-dropping scenarios, there’s little not to like here if you’re a genre aficionado and own a PlayStation 3. Of course, it all started on the PS2, but this series has evolved and become one of the best exclusives the PS3 ever had, and it’s all Guerrilla Games’ fault. It may take a while until we see a new installment, but in the meantime PS3 fans are enjoying KZ3 to the limit.
