10 Epic Game Trailers – Part 1

FEATURE | ? Comments |

Author: Maria Montoro

It's my turn. I get to pick 10 of my favorite game trailers, and I get to explain what makes them so special in my eyes. Game trailers are sometimes amazing, and some epic series like Uncharted, Assassin's Creed, Gears of War and many others have put together truly epic trailers to promote their games. Granted, there are thousands of game videos out there, so not everyone will agree with my choices. Then again, that's why we have a comments sections below! Don't hesitate to let us know what you consider "epic", and if you're patient enough, we'll come up with Part 2 soon enough, as soon as someone else here at GameDynamo takes over this mind-numbingly arduous task...

10 Epic Game Trailers – Part 1

Fallout 3 – Teaser Trailer

Oh yeah. The early Twentieth Century movie style, the Hawaiian doll on top of a dusty old radio deck, the empty, rusty bus, the abandoned toys, the retro cartoons, and desolation. Then, a savior. Or is that robotic-looking thing something to worry about? Like any good teaser should do, this Fallout 3 trailer creates more questions than answers, and other than the name and the apocalyptic theme, there isn't much else you can find out about the game just by watching this video, yet it creates this sense of urgency to play the game. Well done, for sure.

Super Mario Galaxy – Announcement Trailer

Little did we know when we were watching this announcement trailer for the original Super Mario Galaxy back at E3 2006 that the sequel to this game would be even more epic. In this trailer, Mario defies gravity like never before, fights a grapefruit-headed octopus boss as if he was some sort of baseball star, but not only that, he shines in delicious 3D visuals that we never thought possible for the Nintendo Wii. Then again, that was only five years ago, and things have changed quite a bit since then...

Beyond Good & Evil 2 – Leaked Gameplay Trailer

This is the game that never was, the video that never existed. In fact, it seems to be disappearing in the ether of YouTube, as only blurry versions of the action-packed leaked trailer remain on the gigantic video database. Beyond Good & Evil fans were surprised and filled with hope when this video came about, thinking the sequel that would give closure to the cliffhanger of the first game was finally a reality. Unfortunately, Ubisoft has done little more than play with us, first denying the authenticity of this video, then teasing the existence of the game with a lonely trailer different from this one, later announcing its cancellation, and finally admitting BG&E2 is still in the works. Do you guys even know what you're doing to us? Oh well, either way, this gameplay trailer is nothing short of epic...

Gears of War 3 – Dust to Dust Trailer

I may not be a big Gears of War fan, but I know a good game when I see it, and this trailer turned on a light in me. Now, I remember being moved by the Last Day and Mad World trailers for Gears of War 2, but this one, Dust to Dust, was the sign of something epic to come. From the explosions, to the abominable attackers, the perfectly orchestrated action, the sense of camaraderie, and the nostalgic background music that put everything together, there wasn't a single thing that put me off. In fact, this video was one of the things that made me go out and buy the game once it was released - even if I didn't care as much for the other two previous games.

Beautiful Katamari – E3 2007 Trailer

Colors, objects galore, and princes of the Cosmos... more than one of them. The world of Katamari was bigger and better, now with HD graphics but the same frantic, goofy gameplay we knew it for. As extravagant as it may be, I've never grown tired of the Katamari series, and the announcement of Beautiful Katamari for Xbox 360 back in 2007 was quite a revelation. It was no longer a Sony exclusive, but a fun, quirky game everyone could enjoy, no matter their allegiance.
