Top 5 Most Bizarre But Brilliant Video Game Endings (videos included!)
Here's a list of the top 5 most bizarre, but brilliant, video game endings, starting with Final Fantasy X. ***Warning, there are SPOILERS!***
5. Final Fantasy X:
If you really think about it, Final Fantasy X had a very bizarre ending. Tidus, the main character, turns out to be a dream collectively created by a group of dead spirits called the Fayth. They're from the ancient civilization, Zanarkand, that was destroyed a thousand years ago. As the cycle of the monstrous Sin (who happens to be Tidus' father) has ended, Tidus jumps off the ship and vanishes into thin air. Tragic, sad, and very strange. It's a whole new spin on the "everything you went through was a dream" scenario. I know FFX-2 ended up rescuing Tidus, but I didn't know that at the end of FFX!
4. Shadow of the Colossus
Wander defeats giant after giant so he can save the woman he loves, but it turns out he was tricked! Yes, readers; don't trust strange, ominous voices at altars telling you to defeat 16 colossal giants no matter what they promise you. Wander gets possessed by Dormin, becomes a colossus himself, then is sealed away and reborn as a baby. Your resurrected girlfriend is now your adoptive mother. Hip, hip, hurray!
3. Dead or Alive 4:
We can thank Zack for beach volleyball and the strangest ending in Dead or Alive 4. Niki and him are trying to rob a Pharaoh. The dead Pharaoh comes to life in full skeletal glory and fights Zack. Zack transforms into a warrior teletubby. The Pharaoh still overpowers him until Niki takes off her shirt, distracting him with her "curves". Zack defeats the Pharaoh, but then an army of skeletons chases them! Bizarre!!!
Let's talk weird. I complained last week about how disappointed I was with the "true" ending where you ended up with "Katherine", but the ending with "Catherine" was weird in a cool way! She's a succubus who really fell in love with our hero, Vincent. Nergal, her gigantic demon father, shows up and scares Vincent. Vincent sleeps with "Katherine" but the "Boss" is lying next to them, watching, and all along, they're in the underworld, having become evil spirits themselves. WTF??!!
1. Silent Hill 2:
The game starts you in a bathroom, staring at an eerie reflection. James Sunderland has received a letter from his dead wife telling him to meet her in Silent Hill. Usually, these are the signs of a tragic love story bound in mystery. What happened to your wife? Why are monsters chasing you? Why is this town so creepy?! All the suffering begs a deeper meaning! You find it when you use the dog key to enter a room and find out that a puppy, a cute puppy at that, is the one controlling / playing everything behind the scenes. All your sorrow and misery was caused by this puppy that wags its tail happily, the credits, a rhapsody of barking. I was upset, but then I started laughing. What if the entire world was a video game played by a small puppy for his amusement and we were the hapless characters? Would that explain things better?
Retro Special: Super Mario Bros. 2:
The whole game was a trip. So different! In fact, I didn't even know about it until recently, because I played the original Famicom growing up! You could play as the princess or toadstool. You fought against ShyGuys, Mousers, and Tweeters. Finally, Wart! All to find out the whole thing was a dream Mario was having. That's the OG bizarre ending! Sweet dreams, Mario.
Before the questions fly... "what about this game?", "what about that?" Just chill, because I agree with you! I want to know what bizarre game endings I missed! Add to the list, please! The more, the merrier! Or should I say, weirder?
