No More Heroes coming to Android and iOS through Mobage service

NEWS | ? Comments |

Author: Nicholas Greene

Suda 51’s popular, quirky assassination game No More Heroes is going social and, according to Joystiq, mobile.  The announcement is part of Japanese social gaming company DeNA’s new “Super Creator Initiative,” in which they’ve signed deals with several major industry names in order to secure more games for their mobile service.

Heavy hitters signed on to DeNA’s initiative include Keiji Inafune (Capcom’s former Development Head), Yuji Naka (the lead programmer of the original Sonic The Hedgehog series), Yoshifumi Hashimoto, and Noritaka Funamiz (the creator of the Rune Factory franchise).

Developed by Marvelous AQL and Grasshopper Manufacture for the iOS and Android platforms, No More Heroes for Mobage will be a “social assassin battle game,” with new features such as co-operative play and global leaderboards.

Information about the game’s pretty scarce right now, but it wouldn’t surprise me if there was some sort of ‘matchmaking’ functionality that allowed you to track down and assassinate other players. Imagine how entertaining the sort of off-key, insane battles the series was known for took place in a multiplayer environment?

Joystiq notes that at the moment, the game’s going to be Japan-only, but given that Mobage has started establishing a presence in North America, we might soon be seeing the game make its way to our phones, as well.
