With its release next month, the PlayStation Vita is shaping up to look like a system that may finally be able to wrestle the portable gaming world away from the longstanding champion, Nintendo. With its front and back touch screen abilities, dual analog controls, promise of great connectivity, and powerhouse hardware, the PlayStation Vita has the ability to take some of the greatest series and turn them into unique gaming experiences. The following are a list of video game franchises that we would love to see released onto the PS Vita.

10. Dead Space
Dead Space is one of the newest series to take flight into popularity, securing itself as a solid franchise with the release of Dead Space 2 and a port to the iOS. With that said, Dead Space seems already ready to make its way to a system like the Vita, and it's only a matter of time. With a tight control interface, the PS Vita is the perfect landing pad for this survival horror.

9. Twisted Metal
There has been talk for quite some time about a new Twisted Metal game and we'll finally be getting a new one on PS3. However, what about the Vita? The gyroscope and accelerometer could make getting out of the way of oncoming missiles a blast, while the touch screens could help the player target enemy's cars in no time flat. Add in multiplayer modes, and you'll have fast, furious, and portable vehicular combat wherever you go.

8. Red Dead Redemption
It seems there may already be talks of a GTA for the Vita, so why not a follow up to Red Dead Redemption? The gunfights would be exciting with the Vita's controls design, and in between the hundreds of tower-defense, puzzler, retro releases, and indie games you're bound to download and swamp your system with, a Red Dead Redemption game would be a breath of fresh air, providing epic story and deep gameplay, all of which Rockstar could super refine and tighten up for a Vita release.

7. Resident Evil
For a series that has been ported on just about every console since its release, it's actually surprising there are no RE games on launch, but alas, it will only be a matter of time. It seems the PlayStation Vita will be primed for fast-paced, high-energy action games, so if Capcom wants to go the route of a Resident Evil 4-style game, or go back to the classic, meticulous survival horror the series was once known for, the portability of the PlayStation Vita will let us take the system out into the woods at night and make ourselves uneasy playing a scary game. After all, we're already getting a Silent Hill, so where's our Resident Evil?

6. Castlevania
As if Resident Evil wasn't a game series that seems to be on every system since the 90s, Castlevania has covered even more ground. Whether Konami chooses to make it a 2D platformer (touch screens would help with jumping, item selection, special attacks) or a 3D one (the dual analog sticks would help with camera control and tight execution), it seems a lot could be done on the Vita for a series that still has die-hard and casual fans alike.

5. Ace / Air Combat
After the abysmal Assault Horizon, it's time for Namco to make it up to us and give us a good Ace Combat game, and I can't think of a better system than the Vita to provide us for one. I think the Vita controls will be able to encompass a variety of games, and Ace Combat might benefit the most out of them. Accelerometer / gyroscope controls for evasive moves, targeting by touch, issuing commands to your other pilots in seconds with touch menus, and let's not forget our connectivity for ultimate co-op or versus dogfight battles. The more I talk about the prospect, the more excited I get. Okay Namco, get your butts in gear!
