According to a report from Kotaku, the UMD Passport program–which allows Japanese PS Vita owners to register their PSP game discs and re-download the content at a discounted price from the PlayStation Store–will not be available to North American consumers.
Neither Sony nor Sony Computer Entertainment have yet released an official statement, and the source article refers solely to the absence of the program in North America. However, if true, it seems every bit as likely that other regions outside of Japan will also miss out on the customer appreciation service.
How does this make you feel? Are you less likely to pick up the PlayStation Vita because of a lack of backwards compatibility? Did you plan on keeping your PSP anyway?
