Double Fine's new adventure game fully funded by fans through Kickstarter in just over 8 hours

In an ideal world, a company or studio would only need to say that it needs money for a new project, before the populace would begin to pour money upon it in droves, easily giving the outfit more than asked for in less time than expected.
And with hardly any exaggeration, that is what happened for studio Double Fine Productions, who, yesterday, announced that its new project would be funded through Kickstarter donations, and who announced this morning that its goal of $400,000 was met and surpassed in just over eight hours. At the time this article was written, over $729,000 had been raised.
The campaign, according to a tweet from Kickstarter, has broken the record for the most funds and highest number of backers acquired in 24 hours.
Double Fine will continue to accept donations until March 13, by which time, they will probably have enough money to make their game (which has been described as "a brand-new, downloadable 'Point-and-Click' graphic adventure game for the modern age") five times over.
