If Mark Rein, Vice President of Epic Games, is to be believed, then it looks like the successor to the Unreal Engine 3 will be upon us before the calendars are marked "2013".
While talking to G4TV.com about the contributions that Epic's founder, Tim Sweeney, made to the gaming world (like the Unreal Engine), Rein revealed that people will be able to see the Unreal Engine 4 sometime this year.
In his own words: "People are going to be shocked later this year when they see Unreal Engine 4 and how much more profound an effect it will have."
In addition to this news, other reports are popping up, claiming that Rein said, at the DICE 2012 summit, that UE4 was already running on "systems we can't name yet." This would suggest that the next generation of consoles, like the Wii U, the next Xbox, and maybe even the iPad 3, are running on the engine.
Do you think that's possible? If so, feel free to let the world know in the comments box below. And if you'd like glimpse at the latest version of the Unreal Engine in action and where Epic is going, have a look at the following tech videos below released by the studio at GDC 2011.
