Want a copy of Mass Effect 3 early? You could just head to space
NEWS | Author: JC Marx

It seems EA and BioWare are on the quest for the Holy Grail of advertising: a successful viral marketing campaign.

According to a report featured on USA Today's Game Hunters, the mega-publisher will launch copies of Mass Effect 3 to the edge of space sometime next week, tethered to weather balloons with GPS tracking devices.

Mass Effect 3 in space (BioWare, EA)

While the games will be launched from locations across the U.S. and Europe, including New York, San Francisco, Las Vegas, Berlin, London, and Paris, where they come back to Earth is unknown... at least for now.

Because of the GPS tracking devices affixed to the weather balloons, players can track their inevitable return to Earth via masseffect.bioware.com, and claim the ultimate geo-caching prize: a copy of Mass Effect 3 early.

One can only hope the landing sites aren't plagued by the Reaper invasion and its Husk minions, or worse... rabid fans.

What do you think of all this? Too much? Freakin' sweet?
