Cross-Play gives gamers access to games and content between PS Vita and PS3 with a single purchase
Sony's already talked a bit about how the PS Vita and the PS3 will work together, and today, they announced the first of several titles which have something known as "Cross-Play" functionality. Essentially, for select titles, if you buy a game or add-on content on the PlayStation Vita, you'll get it on the PS3, and if you have it on the PS3, you'll be able to get it on the Vita, at no extra charge.

At launch, there will be three games with Cross-Play features enabled: Hustle Kings, WipEout 2048, and Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3. For the first two, buying either of them on either platform means you'll get them on the other platform for free. For the third, UMVC3 DLC purchased for the PS Vita will be free on the PS3, and vice versa.

What's more, WipEout 2048 owners on the Vita will be able to race against PS3 owners on four of the tracks available at launch, and Hustle Kings will allow for turn-based pool between the Vita and PS3. Finally, UMVC3 includes the "Ultimate Controller," allowing players to use the Vita as a controller to play the PS3 version of the game, with the touch-screen being utilized for special moves.

An interesting feature-set to be sure... are you enticed to pick up the new device?
