They've travelled all over the world, from the balmy beaches of Rio to the dank caves under the earth. They've flown amongst the falling leaves of autumn and destroyed fortresses amidst the snow drifts of winter. In the process, they've become some of the most recognizable characters in gaming. So what more can they do? What's left for the birds? Space.

Due on March 22, Angry Birds Space will take the birds beyond the stratosphere. Players will be hurling birds through zero gravity and doing battle with pigs on entirely new worlds. New slow-motion puzzles along with something known as "lightspeed" destruction will be present; there is no word on exactly what the second one entails, quite yet. Essentially, it's going to be the most unique Angry Birds title yet, and Rovio considers it to be the biggest launch it's ever had since the original title.
Not only that, there'll be some completely new birds making their debut, to boot, with some of them even sporting superpowers. Of course, the three-star level rating system will be making its return.

Angry Birds Space will release simultaneously via mobile, retail, and animation channels. More details are forthcoming, and Rovio has urged that we keep an eye on the game's official website. To tide you over until then, check out the trailer below.
