The Witcher franchise made some serious bank last year, with over 1.5 million copies sold in 2011, according to an announcement by CD Projekt RED.

Most of these sales came from the PC version of The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings, which sold more than 1.1 million copies in the seven months following its release in May; 24 percent of these sales consisted of digital copies. Meanwhile, the first Witcher sold 400,000 copies in 2011. Impressive for a game released in 2007.
"We were all incredibly surprised by the number of copies sold," Adam Badowski, head of the CD Projekt RED, said. "The Witcher 2 has garnered over 60 industry awards, and gamers seem to love it. I have to admit, though, that the sales results for The Witcher, 5 years on from the game's premier, are remarkable."

Aside from this announcement was the news of The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings Enhanced Edition, which will bring new characters, locations, animations, cinematics and more additional content to the game when it comes out for Xbox 360 and PC on April 17.
