Rovio Entertainment acquires Futuremark; opening new studio in Stockholm
Finnish game company Rovio Entertainment, creators of… no, I need not say it, you should probably know already… if not, know that they created Angry Birds. Anyway, Rovio acquired another Finnish developer, Futuremark Games Studio, earlier this week. Futuremark's credentials include being the creators of titles like Shattered Horizon and Unstoppable Gorg.
And today, thanks to CVG, we have learned that Rovio announced plans to expand its size (because it can) by opening up a new development studio in Stockholm, Sweden. The company is, at the moment, looking for a new office, with the hope of hiring a new general manager and 20-30 staff members within a year's time.
"2012 is going to be a big year in gaming for us, and we're constantly on the lookout for great new talent," Rovio's executive vice president of games, Petri Järvilehto, said. "We're excited to expand to Stockholm and work in one of Europe's gaming and innovation hotspots."
Rovio is certainly in a position to expand. Just a few days ago, it was revealed that the company's latest, Angry Birds Space, had surpassed ten million downloads, just short of three days after its launch on March 22.
