Shadowrun Returns' Kickstarter campaign looks to bring Runners back to video games
I'm sorry to say that I've never played the cyberpunk tabletop RPG Shadowrun myself. However, I've read through the sourcebooks, researched it at length, and talked to several friends who have, and I'm very, very intrigued as a result (which has a lot to do with my love of cyberpunk).
For the uninitiated, think of it as Blade Runner meets Lord of the Rings, in the world of the Syndicate series of games. Interested yet?
Imagine my surprise (and excitement) when I found out that Jordan Weisman, Shadowrun's original creator, is making a triumphant return to the public sphere with a rather excellent announcement. Apparently, he wants to start work on the game Shadowrun fans have been requesting for years, the game he feels they so richly deserve.
Known as Shadowrun Returns, the game will feature interactive stories penned by some of the best and brightest of Shadowrun's storytellers, 2D, grid-based tactical combat, the four different realities (Physical, Digital, Mystic, and Astral), all the familiar character classes, and (this is the one I'm most excited about) a level editor that allows players to create their own campaigns.
Weisman's currently running a Kickstarter campaign to get the project on its feet. You can find tons more info on the project there, as well as through the Kickstarter appeal video we've posted below. I don't know about you, but I'm going to go donate right now.
