Nintendo registers 'Super Mario 4' domain

During its last investor's presentation in January, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata revealed that the company was working on a 2D Mario game for the 3DS. Aside from a release before April 2013, no further details were revealed.

And then, a few days ago, something interesting came to light. Nintendo had registered a domain. The domain was for 'supermario4.com'.  Hmm…

Nintendo registers Super Mario 4 domain (Wii, Wii U, DS, 3DS)

The publisher isn't even trying to hide this registry. A quick search and you'll find that Nintendo of America is in control of the domain. And if you try typing in the address, you will be redirected to the company's website.

Perhaps the company is hinting at the 2D 3DS game mentioned above, or maybe it could be something else, like a launch title for the Wii U. Keep in mind, though, that maybe this is just Nintendo grabbing the domain so that no one else can use it. It may not be an indication of a project going on at the publisher. Still, it cannot be dismissed that Nintendo may be up to something.

Only time will tell if we'll be playing Super Mario 4 any time soon.
