It's official: Sony confirms PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale for PS3
Today, the rumors are put to rest. Today, the speculations come to an end. Today, the confirmation has come. Today (boy, this is bordering on tedium), it was officially announced, on the PlayStation Blog, that PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale, the oft-rumored PS3 fighter that will pit classic Sony characters together in 2D arena brawls, is real and in development.
Currently, confirmed characters include Sly Cooper, PaRappa the Rapper, Kratos, Sweet Tooth, and Fat Princess. Battle Royale will feature plenty of modes, both single-player and multiplayer, as well as robust online gameplay which will include a tournament mode.
"With PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale, we set out to make an experience accessible enough for all PlayStation fans to enjoy while also creating something deep enough for the serious fighting game aficionado," said Omar Kendall, Game Director at developer SuperBot Entertainment. "We think this 'accessible yet deep' strategy is the perfect way to bring PlayStation fans of all stripes together."
Neither SuperBot nor Sony has yet to reveal a release window for the game. Until then, you can amuse yourself by checking out the new debut trailer for PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale and the first batch of PASBR screenshots.
Perhaps, then, you'll think what I thought when I watched it: "My gosh, they really did rip off Smash Bros."
What? Everyone's been thinking it. I'm just saying...
