Steam Wallet cards now sold at GameStop; trade-in / store credit can be used
Rumors over the weekend that GameStop and Valve were putting together a deal to promote the Steam video game digital delivery platform in GameStop stores across the U.S. have proved to be true.
Today, GameStop announced the inclusion of Steam Wallet codes for PC and Mac gaming enthusiasts. The cards will come pre-loaded with Steam credit in $20 and $50 increments. The Steam Wallet codes can be purchased, starting today, in more than 4,400 GameStop stores.
"We are thrilled to be partnering with Valve on this new initiative," said Steve Nix, GameStop's GM of Digital Distribution. "This gives even more options to customers now that they can put money in their Steam Wallet using cash, gift cards or trade credits through our convenient neighborhood locations."
"GameStop is the most recognized game retailer in the world and a leader in providing a state-of-the-art shopping experience for its customers," said Jason Holtman, Valve's Director of Business Development. "Offering Steam Wallet codes at GameStop extends more options and convenience to gamers around to the world."
GameStop consumers can trade in their used games and consoles, as well as other forms of store credit, to purchase the cards. Steam Wallet codes give players access to all of the over 1,800 games on Steam and join a number of other such gift cards such as those for PSN, Xbox LIVE, Nintendo Store, and various MMO and F2P services sold at the world's largest video game specialty retailer.
