Kinect Component Cost Revealed
According to UBM TechInsights (an independent technology consulting firm), via EE Times, Microsoft's Kinect for Xbox 360 costs the hardware manufacturer about US $56 per unit -- that's a massive difference from the reported US $30,000 it cost Microsoft to produce the Kinect prototype.

The BOM cost (bill-of-materials) of the device was determined by UBM TechInsights after stripping down Kinect and valuating each of the parts separately. EE Times reports that Kinect contains chips and technology made by PrimeSense Ltd., Marvell Technology Group Ltd., Texas Instruments Inc., STMicroelectronics NV, and many more.
