Microsoft’s Halo 4 Trailer gives us Our First Look at the Game’s New Setting and Villains
Microsoft opened their keynote earlier today with a first-hand look at the upcoming sequel to their flagship series, Halo 4. They started off with a live-action trailer, showing the repurposing of the UNSC Infinity from a weapon of war to an instrument of progress. Unfortunately, it’s not to last, and the Infinity is soon destroyed by a Forerunner machine, crash-landing on the same planet as Chief. It’s here that we cut to in-game footage.
Naturally, Chief’s not about to let the Forerunners and their weaponry take the lives of 17,000 innocent civilians.
Next, we’re given a look at the game’s new HUD, and a few of the new foes Master Chief’s going to be doing battle with in Halo 4. Believe it or not, there are still a few covenant forces around that are raring to fight against the Spartan, but just as Chief’s about to get up close and personal with an Elite, it’s vaporized by what we can only assume is a Forerunner.

Chief advances through the jungle, doing battle against hordes of dog-like robots, before coming face to face with what appears to be a bizarre android of some sort. It teleports around the battlefield, shields itself from gunfire, and releases drones from its back before retreating from Chief, dropping a Lasrifle; the first of the game’s new weapons. Once it’s taken down, it then drops what looks to be a shotgun of some kind, which is promptly put to good use vaporizing a second creature.
After a bit more gameplay (showing a new scanning mechanic as well as a bit of melee), we’re given a quick ‘teaser’ reel showing a bit more gameplay as well as Cortana’s descent into insanity (or “rampancy”). November 6 seems mighty far away right now, doesn’t it?
Check the trailer below, and stay tuned for more information about Halo 4 in the coming days of E3.
