Marvel Games Coming to Social Networks Soon

After the acquisitions of Marvel ($4 billion USD) and Playdom ($763 million USD), it is only natural that Disney Corporation would like to create a little 'corporate synergy' and 'boost the bottomline' by creating games starring Marvel icons for social networks such as Facebook and MySpace.

No specific titles have yet been mentioned, but Disney CEO Robert Iger did reveal during an investors' conference call that a "Marvel IP" is in fact forthcoming.

Apparently, ever since Marvel was brought into the Disney fold, the parent company has been looking for ways to license the various intellectual properties under the Marvel banner. However, after careful analysis, it became apparent that developing and distributing such games would be far more profitable than simply licensing them, prompting the purchase of Playdom.

As an added bonus, the Playdom acquisition came with the right to develop apps and software boasting the ESPN brand, so it is probable that Disney and Playdom will pursue "opportunities with ESPN," as well.
