Xbox SmartGlass and various entertainment services launch this week
"I wanted to let everyone know that this is a huge week for us," begins Major Nelson, "Because Xbox is taking several important steps to expand your entertainment experience. This week, we'll have the new console update, Xbox coming to Windows 8, and the launch of SmartGlass experiences across your favorite consoles."
The update, according to Major Nelson, includes a number of features, including an updated UI for the Xbox 360 Dashboard, recommendations and ratings for media, Internet Explorer for Xbox, Xbox Video (formerly the Zune Video Marketplace), and enhanced search with international voice search capabilities.
Further, when Windows 8 launches later this week, it'll be launching alongside the much-discussed SmartGlass, which will bring with it the ability to intelligently connect 360s to Windows 8 devices. After doing so, one can either control their Xbox 360 with their smartphone or tablet, use the device as a second screen, and more.
The following Xbox SmartGlass video walkthrough gives us a good idea of where developers can go with this.
