During Nintendo's 3DS announcement extravaganza this morning, otherwise known as Nintendo Direct for Oct. 25, 2012, the upcoming Animal Crossing for 3DS was given an official name and a gameplay trailer.

Called Animal Crossing: New Leaf, players will take on the role as mayor of their town, allowing them to improve and decorate the village, stores, your home, your character, and even design new outfits and items to be shared with friends via QR codes.

Animal Crossing: New Leaf comes out first in Japan on Nov., 8, 2012, making its way west by the first part of 2013. Enjoy the heartwarming video!
