Take-Two reports fiscal Q2; Borderlands 2 shifts 5 million and XCOM: Enemy Unknown sees strong digital sales
This fiscal year's second quarter (which ended September 30 for many video game companies) proved to be a time of impressive sales for Take-Two Interactive. Today, the publisher let out the numbers.
In total, Take-Two made off with revenues of $273.1 million, a notable increase of 155% from the Q2 prior. While that still means that, unfortunately, the company has a net loss, a loss of $12.5 million is a vast improvement over the $123.3 million loss from the same quarter last year.

Leading the charge in sales this quarter was Borderlands 2, which sold over 5 million units, backed up by catalog sales of Grand Theft Auto IV and Red Dead Redemption. Digital distribution was also strong, with a 108% increase over the last Q2, led by strong sales from Borderlands 2 and XCOM: Enemy Unknown, along with the Grand Theft Auto series, the Civilization series, and Max Payne 3.
"Take-Two's second quarter revenue and earnings exceeded our outlook, driven by the breakout success of 2K's Borderlands 2 and robust demand for our catalog and digitally delivered offerings," said Strauss Zelnick, Chairman and CEO of Take-Two. "Our business continues to fire on all cylinders, led by terrific early results from 2K's NBA 2K13, and the outlook for our upcoming releases such as BioShock Infinite is stronger than ever."
"As a result, we continue to expect to deliver revenue growth and Non-GAAP profits in fiscal year 2013," he added. "Moreover, with Grand Theft Auto V slated for spring 2013, we are poised to generate substantial revenue and earnings growth in fiscal year 2014."
