Diablo III sells 10 million units and prepares for expansion; StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm release window revealed
At their latest financial conference call, Blizzard Entertainment announced impressive sales had bolstered the company during their third quarter, mainly focusing on the success of Diablo III (which has now been sold over 10 million times since its launch) and the World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria expansion.
The most interesting bits of Blizzard-related news to come from the conference call, however, had nothing to do with sales. During the call, Blizzard president Mike Morhaime confirmed that the studio has begun work on an expansion for Diablo III.
"We do have an expansion planned for Diablo. I don't have any timeline to talk about yet," he said. "I think the most important thing for us always comes down to the quality of the expansion and the gameplay, so that will be a big factor in terms of driving our schedule." In other words, Blizzard will not be rushed.
While Morhaime was a tad vague on Diablo III's expansion, he was a bit more specific regarding the long-awaited Heart of the Swarm expansion for StarCraft II. In a move that ought to make fans very happy, Morhaime said the expansion should arrive at retailers sometime during the first half of next year. That's still rather vague, but if his claims are accurate, then fans that have been waiting for years for Heart of the Swarm will soon be able to play it at long last.
More information on both expansions should be coming soon. Stay tuned.
