Call of Duty: Black Ops II grosses more than $500 million in its first 24 hours
According to Chart-Track, retail customer sell-through information, and internal company estimates, Activision's Call of Duty: Black Ops II has generated over $500 million in in sales in the first 24 of its release.
"With first day sales of over half a billion dollars worldwide, we believe Call of Duty is the biggest entertainment launch of the year for the fourth year in a row," said Bobby Kotick, CEO, Activision Blizzard, Inc. "Life-to-date sales for the Call of Duty franchise have exceeded worldwide theatrical box office receipts for "Harry Potter" and "Star Wars," the two most successful movie franchises of all time. Given the challenged macro-economic environment, we remain cautious about the balance of 2012 and 2013."
While $500 million in sales in just 24 hours is an amazing feat, what's even more astounding is that the game still has another console for which to launch; COD: Black Ops II releases for Wii U on Sunday, November 18 in North America and on Friday, November 30 in Europe.
Are you playing Black Ops II? Are you waiting for the Wii U version? Halo 4 more your style?
