Holiday Shopping Guide 2012: Gift Ideas for Gamers

Another year, another dollar. Or something like that. It's that time of the year again, and you're probably still looking to spend those hard-earned dollars on gifts for friends and family. If your loved ones happen to be geeky or tech-oriented don't worry. We've got you covered. Here are some gift ideas that'll make any gamer smile.

Gaming Systems:

250 GB Xbox 360 with Forza Motorsport 4 and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

250 GB Xbox 360 with Forza Motorsport 4 and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

This sweet Xbox 360 package is definitely tempting and will please anyone interested in becoming an Xbox 360 user. The two games included, Forza Motorsport 4 (an Xbox 360 exclusive) and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, are both AAA titles, so you know you're off to a good start. If you're lucky and find the bundle for $50 less than its standard retail price, then it's gold! Here's a link that may help you get the 250GB Xbox 360 Holiday Bundle for just $250.

NOTE: If you're looking to gift this to someone younger than 17 and you're concerned about Skyrim being rated "Mature", perhaps you could go for a different bundle. There are plenty of good deals out there.

250 GB PS3 Bundle with inFAMOUS and Uncharted

250 GB PS3 Bundle with inFAMOUS and Uncharted

The PS3 has free online gaming and several unique game franchises you shouldn't miss. If you're considering the purchase of a PlayStation 3, this bundle is great! It comes with Uncharted and Uncharted 2 (best of the best action adventure titles on PS3) plus inFAMOUS and inFAMOUS 2 (really fun open-world action adventure). If you ask me, this is what I'd get. Plus it comes with 30 days of PlayStation Plus, so you'll have access to a bunch of perks a free games during that time.

If you find the 250GB PS3 Bundle with Uncharted and inFAMOUS for $200, it's quite a treat. Get it while you can!

3DS XL Bundle with Mario Kart 7

3DS XL Bundle with Mario Kart 7

This is the ultimate holiday bundle if you're looking to get a 3DS. I already have one, yet I find myself fantasizing with this blue 3DS XL bundle with Mario Kart 7. You get a larger screen, the nice blue finish, and one of the best 3DS games available, already installed and ready to go wherever you go. If you're in America you'll have access to this Limited Edition for $200. In Europe there's a similar bundle with other games of choice such as: Super Mario 3D LandFreakyforms Deluxe Your Creations, Alive!, New Art Academy: Learn New Painting Techniques and Share Your Art, Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask, and Nintendo presents: New Style Boutique. Nice stuff.

Sony PS Vita + Unit 13 + PS Plus Bundle

Sony PS Vita + Unit 13 + PS Plus Bundle

I bet many of you are considering the purchase of a PS Vita for you or your loved ones. The system hasn't been a huge sales success yet, but not due to lack of exciting features. It sports beautiful HD graphics comparable with those on PS3 games, video streaming, social apps, and other online features. Moreover, this specific pack includes the cool action game Unit 13, a 4 GB Memory Card, and a full year of PlayStation Plus, which gives you access to several AAA free games for Vita (such as Uncharted: Golden Abyss, Gravity Rush, and WipEout 2048), which you can play for the entire year or as long as you continue your PS Plus subscription. It is $300, but Unit 13 plus the free games on PS Plus make it worth it right out of the box!

Nintendo Wii U 32GB Deluxe Set with NintendoLand

This one has been out of stock for a while, but I believe it'll be easier and easier to get a hold of it as we approach Christmas. You can buy a Basic Wii U Set (the white one) with less internal memory, without cradles, and without Nintendo Land, but everybody tends to prefer the Wii U Deluxe Set for a reason: with all those extra perks, you're only paying 50 extra dollars. The Wii U is more than just a new Wii. With brand new games sporting HD graphics (like Super Mario Bros. U), an additional screen that allows for unique game mechanics and off-TV gameplay, an engaging, game-centric social network (Miiverse), the ability to play Wii games, and as always, Nintendo's awesome game franchises, you can't go wrong. Unless you already have an Xbox 360 or a PS3 and no need to play Nintendo's titles. Hey, looks like GameStop has the Wii U in stock. Get it before it's gone!

Nintendo Wii Blue Console with Skylanders Giants Starter Pack

If you ask me, there aren't many reasons to get a new Wii nowadays, except if you already have a library of games for it and the new Wii U is a tad too pricey for your liking. Then again, if you have a young one looking to play video games and the HD graphics are not a big concern, the Wii still has an outstanding library of games, not the least of which is this addictive adventure from Activision, Skylanders Giants. Be warned that it'll encourage toy-collecting, but it's a good game nonetheless. And if you need a new Wii, this light blue color makes the Wii feel fresh all over again. You can get it at many retailers. Here's one.
