Fable II vanishes from Xbox LIVE Marketplace
Fable II is available again on the Xbox LIVE Marketplace. Here's the statement released from Microsoft concerning the game's temporary absense:
"There was an isolated issue affecting the availability of Fable II on Games on Demand recently. We have resolved the issue and the game is once again available. We apologize for any inconvenience this caused."
I'm a huge proponent of digital distribution, but I'm perfectly willing to admit that there are a few weaknesses to the model. What happened with Fable II today underscores one of them. See, it completely vanished from the Xbox LIVE Marketplace, meaning everybody who downloaded the game no longer has access to it.
Although the game remains in the download history of users who already purchased it, any attempts to re-download it result in an error. Those who've already have the game on their hard drive can still access and play it, and curiously enough, the Knothole Island and See The Future expansions are still available.
No word yet if this was an intentional thing, or a glitch in the system; neither Microsoft nor Lionhead Studios have responded to a request for a comment. Even more curious is the fact that the original Fable is still available on Xbox LIVE, as is Fable III.
You'll know more as soon as we do.
