Assassin's Creed III DLC erasing game save data for some players
Few things can sour a gamer's day like discovering a malicious bug in a new game or DLC that stops their progress in its tracks. Few things can one-up that like finding out that bug erases most, or all, of your progress (Borderlands 2, anyone?).
Such a bug has been reported by players of Assassin's Creed III's newest downloadable content, the Hidden Secrets Pack. Taking to the official Ubisoft forums, players have reported that the DLC has reset their progress, erasing mission progress and money, while making the erased missions inaccessible for some.
Bummer. Seriously.

Luckily, Ubisoft wasn't slow in responding to the issue. "Just a quick heads up, we're able to reproduce this issue at the studio and are working on a fix/workaround," the publisher said on the forums. "From what we can tell, this problem seems to be rare and should generally only affect a very small number of players. That said, we're taking the speedy and complete resolution of this very seriously."
Ubisoft also provided some tips for avoiding the progress-slaying bug. "Do not load your saved AC3 game while the DLC is downloading in the background. This appears to be the key trigger for this bug. You can do anything else you want to do, just don't load up your saved game and play it while the DLC is downloading."
Heed those words, readers who have bought the AC III DLC, as it may mean the difference between your progress' life and death. Unless, of course, you've already fallen prey to the malicious bug. In which case, my condolences.
