VGA 2010 Trailers Reviewed. All 12 World Premiere Videos Inside!

FEATURE | ? Comments |

Author: GD Staff

Many of the VGA 2010 world premiere trailers were awesome, some were too short, and others were just plain lame. In this mini-review compilation, we rate each trailer based on composition quality, new information, and impact.

Spike TV still has exclusive rights to the 12 world premiere trailers revealed at the VGAs last night, so we can't upload them to our video section yet. However, we've gone ahead and embedded all of them here for your viewing pleasure and convenience.

When you're done, don't forget to check out our recap of last night's VGA 2010 event to find out how it all went down and what we thought.

Trailers embeded from: Spike TV.

Resistance 3 - VGA Debut Trailer

75 / 100 - Very little new information. The synthesis between actual gameplay footage and live-action clips was a neat idea that didn't quite work out. Still, a glimpse into the hopeless world of Resistance 3 packed a punch!

Batman: Arkham City - Hugo Strange Reveal Trailer

95 / 100 - This lengthy trailer has it all: ass-kicking, great CGI, a first-look at a new villain, and it is heavy on the excitement factor!

Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception - VGA Debut Trailer

80 / 100 - The impact this video could have had was curtailed due to the release of all information before the VGAs. Regardless, Naughty Dog knows how to tell a great story, and that is already coming through in this trailer. The somewhat portly Nathan Drake looks like Gerard Butler's doppleganger.

Forza Motorsport 4 - VGA Debut Trailer

75 / 100 - Too short to be truly effective, but because it is hot on the heels of the Gran Turismo 5 release, it's powerful anyway. It's clear that the simulation factor will be ramped up even further this time around.

Thor: God of Thunder - Gameplay Trailer

30 / 100 - Weak! Hopefully this game will be good (we love our superheroes), but if the gameplay trailer is any indication, we're not holding our breath. Gameplay looks derivative and Thor doesn't shine.

Portal 2 - VGA Debut Trailer

50 / 100 - Yawn. Portal 2 will undoubtedly rock the house, but the antics of Blue and Orange in this video aren't pushing the wow factor.

Mortal Kombat - Kratos Reveal Trailer

85 / 100 - It's Mortal Kombat + Kratos... what's not to love? Scorpion's chain weapon looks hilarious next to the Blades of Athena. Humorous, fun, and bad-ass.

Mass Effect 3 - VGA Debut Trailer

90 / 100 - A sniper roost in Big Ben, Earth beseiged, London calling, and Commander Shepard steeling himself to save humanity once again all combine to make one awesome reveal trailer.

Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim - VGA Debut Trailer

75 / 100 - The narration is stellar and the plot setup has us excited. While we like the frieze coming to life to tell the tale, there wasn't much in the way of action to whet our appetite.

Prototype 2 - VGA Debut Trailer

65 / 100 - A bit ho-hum for a game that needs to build up serious hype to get a foothold. At least we got a glimpse of both the story and the gameplay that awaits us.

Insane - VGA Debut Trailer

35 / 100 - This trailer revealed nothing. Guillermo del Toro's comments before the video rolled were more meaningful. With a 2013 launch window scheduled, this game is obviously in its infancy... a debut trailer probably could have waited.

SSX: Deadly Descents - VGA Debut Trailer

50 / 100 - Infinity Ward called and they want their trailer back (kidding). We're not sure why EA has gone with such an edgy vibe for SSX: Deadly Descents, but we're ready to board every major mountain range in the world, realistically rendered from topographical maps.
