BioWare addresses open world PvP and same gender romance in Star Wars: The Old Republic

Despite the recent introduction of a free-to-play option, Star Wars: The Old Republic is going strong, according to executive producer Jeff Hickman. In a recent blog post on the MMO's website, Hickman said that the game continues to gain new players, and also took time to answer some questions that have been lingering in players' minds.

One of these regarded the promised inclusion of an open world PvP feature. To this, Hickman responded, "As for pure Open World PvP…well, that's a more difficult proposition. We are dedicated to providing excellent PvP experiences to our players, but we intend to focus our energy on PvP Seasons and new Warzones."

"We will be experimenting with a different approach to Open World PvP, something that encourages organic PvP in contested areas in a new and interesting way, but do not look for massive new Open World PvP this year (outside of what I mentioned above)," he added. "It is still on our design wall, but is taking a back seat to other forms of PvP."

Hickman also took time to address something that gamers have been looking forward to for a while, a feature BioWare confirmed before The Old Republic launched: the ability to pursue "Same Gender Romance". Apologizing for the delay, Hickman revealed that that option had been pushed back as the development team focused on making the game free-to-play, and that it will take more work than they had expected to get it where they wanted.

While Hickman didn't say when those options will be available, he did confirm that the option to pursue same-sex relationships with certain NPCs will become available on the planet Makeb, the central location for the upcoming Rise of the Hutt Cartel expansion, which will be available this spring (more on that here).
