Kill Screen and Ouya host a game development contest worth $20,000
Anyone who's interested in developing for OUYA should probably listen up: In collaboration with Kill Screen, the developers of OUYA are hosting a ten-day game development contest, which they're referring to as a "game jam."
There are some pretty hefty prizes up for grabs, including a grand prize of $20,000 and a number of secondary $5,000 prizes for category winners. Games that successfully launch after the competition will receive either $5,000 (if they won) or $1,000 (if they were a 'best in category').
The secondary categories include best controls, most unique, most immersive, most nostalgic, and most visually astounding.
"To celebrate the release of the OUYA Developer Console," reads a post on Kill Screen Daily, "we are hosting a 10-day online game jam we're calling CREATE What is a game game, you ask? It's a focused get-together where teams make playable games insanely quickly. Your mind will be blown at what a team can do in 10 days. Many world-class games were initially conceived in a game jam."
Anyone interested in participating can submit playable prototypes of their title from January 14-23 here. Finalists will be announced on February 11, with the winners on the 18th. Each game will be judged by a panel which includes Felicia Day (of The Guild fame), Phillip Fish (creator of Fez), and Austin Wintory (Grammy nominated composer for Journey), among others. Winners will be selected based on a number of categories, including community support and successful use of OUYA.
Those who wish to participate will need to have either pre-ordered OUYA or backed the project's Kickstarter.
