Leaked images of purported Gears of War RTS alpha emerge
Could work be underway for a Kinect-centered real-time strategy Gears of War game? A set of screenshots of what the source claims to be an early build of such a game seem to suggest so.
According to VGleaks.com, the images, which the site says were taken from an early video presentation, are from a game they refer to as Gears of War: Tactics. The images (all of which can be seen on through the VGleaks link below) depict from a top-down view of what appears to be a squad of four soldiers led by Baird.
Gameplay involves taking the four soldiers and guiding them through missions, moving them by tracing a path for them with one's finger. The game also seems to contain defensive scenarios, as one screen said that the objective of the mission shown in the images is to "hold out until help arrives."
The site concludes by claiming GoW: Tactics was initially in development at Epic Games for the Xbox 360, but it's likely now in development for the console's next-gen successor. However, while the images don't appear flat-out fake, do take VGleaks' report with a grain of salt or two. After all, Epic was rumored to have been working on a Kinect-based GoW title before, but it turns out that project had been canceled.
Neither Microsoft nor Epic have responded to the leak, and it isn't likely they will, given how rarely publishers comment on any sort of rumor, in which case, feel free to make up for that by sharing your thoughts on the matter in the comment box below.
