Uncharted 3 free-to-play-multiplayer downloaded over 350K times
It’s possible you may have thought Sony’s re-releasing of the multiplayer component for Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception in standalone, free-to-play form was a strange move on the company’s part. But regardless of what you may have thought before, there’s no more denying that the move is paying off.
Taking to the PlayStation Blog, Eric Monacelli, community strategist for Naughty Dog, revealed that the F2P multiplayer has been downloaded a considerable 350,000+ times. Not content, though, to just watch the downloads pour in, the developer will be rolling out new content for the multiplayer over the next few months.
“To keep that momentum going, as promised, we're making new DLC available for purchase every month until June 2013,” said Monacelli, who then described the theme of this month’s DLC. "This month we're recognizing Extraterrestrial Abductions Day - or a day around it anyway - by unveiling our Oddball themed character parts for your Uncharted 3 Multiplayer characters.”
As for why the developer choose the Oddball theme, Monacelli explained, “Well, these character parts defy classification as they don't quite fit among the numerous other parts we'll have coming out over the next few months, and Extraterrestrial Abductions Day is a bit of an odd holiday anyway."
New character items means new tournament rewards are also available, such as a Gas Mask Gun and Gas Mask Shirt. Also, players who reach gold tier in the multiplayer will land a British Guard Hat for Cutter, while players with Platinum status can unlock a Raptor Mask for Drake and a Dive Helmet for Talbot.
More on the Oddball items can be found on the Uncharted 3 multiplayer’s page here.
