XBLA listing confirms Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon release date for May 1
Over the last several weeks, reports have popped up for an expansion for Far Cry 3. Doubts circulated over this expansion, subtitled “Blood Dragon”, as various leaks revealed what appeared to be a game drenched in 80s nostalgia. The fact that a teaser site launched on April Fools’ Day didn’t help make its existence less debatable.
However, after all this time, Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon has finally been confirmed via an official Xbox.com listing, which also reveals that the game will be a standalone XBLA title instead of a downloadable expansion.
Here’s the website’s description for the game:
"Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon is THE Kick-A** Cyber Shooter taking place on a bizarre open-world island crawling with evil. Welcome to an 80’s VHS vision of the future. The year is 2007 and you are Sargent Rex Colt, a Mark IV Cyber Commando who’s fighting against a cyborg army gone rogue. Your mission: get the girl, kill the baddies, and save the world. Experience every cliché of a VHS era vision of a nuclear future, where cyborgs, blood dragons, mutants, and Michael Biehn (Terminator, Aliens, Navy Seals) collide. Playing Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon doesn't require a copy of Far Cry 3."
Sounds very 80s indeed, though being a child of the 90s, I can’t say from personal experience. Anyway, according to the Xbox.com listing, players will be able to get neck-deep in the neon-soaked FPS action on May 1. While the date only applies to the XBLA version, it’s doesn’t seem too great a stretch to think that Blood Dragon will be available on PSN and PC on or near that date.
