XCOM shooter website and videos disappear; could be re-branded as 'The Bureau'
Digital Trends recently noticed that the game’s website has been removed, leading now to an error message. Along with that, the game’s trailers have been pulled from 2K’s official YouTube channel. This has led many to wonder if the game had finally been canceled. While that may be the case, there’s also a chance that the publisher is preparing to rebrand XCOM instead.
Signs are pointing to that possibility. Late last month, web-sleuth Superannuation (via Kotaku) reported that 2K had registered domains for something called “The Bureau”, along with domains for "whathappenedin62.com" and "whathappenedin62.net".
Considering XCOM was set in 1962, it’s easy to assume that The Bureau is actually the new name for the game. Also worth considering is a report from last October that XCOM had been transformed from a FPS to a third-person, squad-based shooter, and that 2K was considering releasing it as downloadable title.
While, of course, it’s too soon to say with any certainty what 2K intends to do with XCOM, we are left with some intriguing pieces of info to nibble on until we finally heard something official. With that in mind, feel free to let us know what you think the game's fate will be.
