Ratchet & Clank movie coming in 2015
My, I doubt most of us were expecting this. Today, a new film adaptation of a popular video game franchise was announced. Interestingly, unlike most of the game adaptations in the works, this one will be animated. Oh, and did I mention that it’s a Ratchet & Clank movie?
Yes, Insomniac revealed this morning that it is collaborating with animation company Rainmaker Entertainment (the studio behind the recent Escape from Planet Earth) and Blockade Entertainment to bring the origin story of everyone’s favorite lombax and his robot partner to the big screen in 2015.
Here's the official plot description: "Ratchet and Clank tells the story of two unlikely heroes as they struggle to stop a vile alien named Chairman Drek from destroying every planet in the Solana Galaxy. Ratchet is the last of his kind – a foolhardy 'lombax' who has grown up alone on a backwater planet with no family of his own. Clank is a pint-sized robot with more brains than brawn. When the two stumble upon a dangerous weapon capable of destroying entire planets, they must join forces with a team of colorful heroes called The Galactic Rangers in order to save the galaxy. Along the way they’ll learn about heroism, friendship, and the importance of discovering one’s own identity."
In order to stay true to the series, Insomniac is playing a hands-on role, serving as consultants on the film’s production, writing, and animation. Additionally, the company is bringing in scribe T.J. Fixman (who wrote all of the R&C games of recent years) to pen the screenplay, as well as voice actors from the games, including James A. Taylor (Ratchet), David Kaye (Clank) and Jim Ward (Captain Qwark).

"One of the biggest questions we've gotten in the last few years is 'When are you going to make a Ratchet & Clank movie?" wrote Insomniac Community Lead James Stevenson on the PlayStation Blog. "The truth is, we've wanted to do a movie for a long time! Ratchet & Clank's action, humor and galaxy-spanning adventures have really been the basis for a fantastic game series, and we think it'd translate perfectly to the big screen."
“Ratchet & Clank: The Movie” may be two years away, but you can get your first look at what to expect in 2015 right now via the teaser above. I don’t know about you guys, but I’m very much intrigued.
