The Wii U update that improves loading times is ready; Wii U Rayman Online Challenges too
Here's a summary of the update's features:
- Improved loading times in between menus and software use
- Standby downloading / installing
- Background downloading / installing
- Fast access to Wii Menu right after you power on the Wii U
- Transfer and copy data between USB devices
- Priority settings for downloads
- TV screen size output settings
- Undo/Redo button for Miiverse drawing
- Improved user account selection
The update also prepares the console for the imminent arrival of Virtual Console games.
It's ready. The highly-anticipated Wii U firmware update that fixes the loading issues found when transitioning in between Wii U menus has arrived, at least in North America and parts of Europe. We certainly loved it when it graced our TV screen earlier today, and within minutes, the update was installed and ready to go, also allowing us to activate this new standby downloading feature that lets the Wii U download and install data even after the console it's powered off.
It's a handy feature indeed, one we're using right now to install the hallenges mode of Rayman Legends, available for free starting today on the Wii U e-Shop to make up for the prolongued wait time Rayman fans have had to go through. A couple months ago, Ubisoft announced their intention to delay the game's release on Wii U and pair it up with the launch of Rayman Legends on Xbox 360 and PS3 as well. The Wii U exclusive demo tasks players with competing on weekly challenges against other players around the world.
Also, the game has received an official release date. Yes, folks, this seems like the real deal! Although I wouldn't count on it officially until I see it with my own eyes. Rayman Legends is set to release in Europe on August 30th, while it'll arrive to the American market on September 3rd, 2013. Between the absolutely improved loading times (we've been testing it with Miiverse and a variety of other software), the launch of the exclusive Wii U Rayman Legends Challenges, and the announcements we got at last week's Nintendo Direct, I can say I'm a happy camper. How about you?
