Diablo III 'Reaper of Souls' expansion announced
Today at Gamescom, Blizzard finally revealed what it had been preparing the fans of Diablo III for weeks, the first expansion for the loot-crazy dungeon-crawler. Named Reaper of Souls, it is described by Blizzard as a "dark and terrifying new chapter" in the Diablo saga, complete with not-so terrifying new features and improvements.
The story of Reaper of Souls will revolve around fallen archangel Malthael, who steals the Black Soulstone, container of “the essence of the Prime Evil”, in an attempt to rain down death on the world. To prevent this from happening, players will have access to a powerful new character class: the Crusader. This heavily armor tank of a hero will come armed with a multitude of “cruel and punishing weapons” and “battle magic to strengthen allies and weaken foes.”
The expansion will see Diablo III’s level cap rise to 70, the addition of new spells and abilities for the existing character classes, a major upgrade for the Paragon leveling system, and the overhauling of the loot system that will improve the likelihood of players getting items suited to their class, among other things.
Along with new quests, new monsters, and new loot, Reaper of Souls will boast two new modes: “Loot Runs” and “Nephalem Trials”, which Blizzard promised will “provide players with a highly replayable (and highly rewarding) end-game experience.”
For the time being, Diablo III: Reaper of Souls has no release date. But it does have a trailer, and you can watch it here. Also, feel free to let us know what you think of the expansion in the comment box below.
