The Wii U’s unpleasant sales situation took a good turn last week in Japan. Across the ocean, the launch of Wii Party U led to a huge sales spike for Nintendo’s struggling console, with the number of systems sold leaping from the 2,598 of the previous week to an impressive 38,802.

Wii Party U drives weekly Japanese Wii U sales from under 2,600 to over 38,000

This makes the Wii U the second highest-selling console of the week, after the 3DS, which, according to Media Create data (picked up by NeoGAF users), clocked in at 88,376 units sold, probably bolstered by impressive weekly sales of Pokemon X and Pokemon Y.
