Top 5 Best Video Games of January 2011
Well, January 2011 came and went (pretty much), and we're left with a bittersweet sensation. But, when wouldn't that be the case? With all the video game releases that happen every month nowadays, some titles are meant to drive off track, and others... well, they head straight to success, no pit stops involved or anything.
You're probably getting ready for some exciting titles that are set to release in February, starting with Marvel vs. Capcom 3, Bulletstorm, Killzone 3, and a few others, but in the meantime, we'd like to look back and let you know which games gave us the chills and thrills in the last four weeks. Oh! and tell us what you think in the comments section below!
5. Magicka (PC)
We don't have the full verdict yet, but despite the flaws with which the game has shipped, this PC title combines the power of the elements in unique ways. Mixing puzzle and dungeon crawling mechanics, players will feel the power of magic in their hands, and they'll have a blast. Moreover, the game is hilarious, and it couldn't be more affordable. We're happy to wait for the patches that'll fix the multiplayer and a few other kinks it has because... it's just that fun.
Capcom has done it again. If anyone knows how to create unique and engaging games for the Nintendo DS it's them. Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective is a brand new IP with an outlandish main character who's more dead than your grandma's toe. He can't do much to save himself, but he's decided to help others not to die by traveling back in time and interacting with objects in such way that the outcome will be... let's say... a little less deadly. This puzzle adventure might just be what you need for your next trip.
We had to say it. It did come out last year for Xbox 360 and PC, but Mass Effect 2 on the PS3 is not only a dream come true but a work of art. After a quick recap of what happened in the first game, you'll embark in an adventure that's tough to forget, especially with the seamless combination of the RPG and shooter genres it has to offer. If you own a PS3, it's time you meet Commander Shepard and let him take you for a spin in the fascinating world of Mass Effect.
Unique as always, LittleBigPlanet 2 comes packed with an extra dose of fun. Not only does it include a ton of new platforming levels, but it's also been spiced up with new gameplay mechanics that turn Sackboy in nearly a superhero, fighting bosses and all. Between the whimsical new levels, the enhanced level creator, the new community features, and the Sackboy's Prehistoric Moves addition with PlayStation Move support, there's a lot to like in this package... and many hours to spend on it!
It will give you the creeps. A survival horror game that makes you jump off your couch, contort your body involuntarily, and let out that wimpy scream you hadn't heard since a kid took your lunch back in third grade, has to be good. With incredible sound design, horrifying enemies that latch onto you at every corner, and über-fun, limb-chopping shooting mechanics, Dead Space 2 is the game you've been waiting for all year... and it's not even February yet.
