Bohemia Interactive's Arma III April Fool's Joke has raised some serious cash for charity
It began as an April Fool's prank. Developer Bohemia Interactive announced Arma 3 Karts back in April; a Kart-racing offshoot of the miliary shooter (and a clear riff on Mario Kart). Although it initially started as a joke, Bohemia Interactive was surprised to see that fans were...actually very interested in playing it. They decided to experiment, transforming it into DLC late last month.
Since they made that decision, it's raised approximately $49,621 for the Czech Red Cross. The download's retail value was $1.99.
"Alongside helping us to evaluate Arma 3's new approach to DLC, with the backing of our community, Arma 3 Karts has managed to raise money for a great cause," said creative director Jay Crowe. "A big thanks to our players, both for their support and their valuable feedback, which we'll use to refine our implementation. Overall, we're positive about the preliminary results and responses, which seems to benefit Arma 3 players and help sustain Arma 3 development."
