That Open Beta for Rainbow Six: Siege has been delayed (UPDATE: it's live now)

UPDATE:

That didn't take as long as my original speculation feared. As of this writing on Thursday morning, Siege's Open Beta is now up, running and awaiting players hungry for some hardcore tactical FPS-ness.

"We apologize for the inconvenience and we appreciate your patience and understanding," Ubisoft wrote. "We are proud of what Rainbow Six: Siege has to offer and we wish you the greatest experience possible."

ORIGINAL STORY:

For those of you who were planning to hop into the Open Beta for wall-breaching sim Rainbow Six: Siege this morning and found it to be noticeably… not there, you probably already figured this out on your own, but all the same, I shall repeat what I already said in the headline: it’s been delayed.

Ubisoft say this abrupt postponement is on account of “issues with matchmaking times and disconnection” that they’re finding on all platforms. “As such we’re postponing the Open Beta until a later time and keeping the game under Closed Beta status,” they wrote on the Ubi forums.

There is no ETA for when the Beta is expected to go Open at this time, which leaves me wondering if it’s all a bit hopeless at this point. Not to be cynical or anything, but Siege is coming out in six short days. Even without factoring in a delay of uncertain length, that’s not a lot of time to host a beta before launch. If these matchmaking issues persist, might they just cancel the Beta entirely, or will they be left no choice but to host it while the game’s already out? Does a Beta really count after the fact?

Hopefully, Ubisoft will prove all that conjecture unnecessary by ironing out the kinks and opening up the Beta within the next day or two, that way R6 fans will be able to try Siege out for at least a little bit before its official launch on Tuesday, December 1.

“We apologize for the delay and can assure you this is our top priority. We will keep everyone updated regularly as we continue to deploy improvements,” Ubisoft wrote.

While you wait for that to happen, feel free to re-brush up on the content that will be available during the Beta, whenever it finally shows up:
