"An Electric Experience"
Sony's Playstation Collections line is pretty interesting: for a low price you get entire series of games with a number of extras. While that may sound good on paper (or tablet), a lot of the offerings, when put up against one another, create a situation where you feel forced to compare. The inFAMOUS Collection, which gathers both games in the series and spin-off Festival of Blood, is one of the more notable releases, since it's a collection of multiple sandbox titles.
The first inFAMOUS title is more of an origin story, and it deals with the series' main character, Cole McGrath, coping with his new powers. After a mysterious disaster (which happens the moment you press "Start") that destroys his hometown, Cole finds himself with the ability to control electricity. After fending a gang of evil drug addicts and police, Cole eventually meets up with a government agent that offers to help Cole restore order to the devastated town and get to the source of the incident.
inFAMOUS employs a morale system at certain points throughout the game that allow players to choose actions that determine which character upgrades will be made available. These include powers that can drastically change gameplay, with the good path focusing on stunning enemies and the evil path focused on killing them and setting off explosions. The moments where these decisions are made are pretty cut and dry, such as choosing to hoard a supply drop for you and your friends, or choosing to share it with everyone.
This feeling is also prevalent in the gameplay, with everything feeling like there's choice, but it's still linear. It's fun to play, but the open world doesn't really lend itself to exploration; the gameplay feels too "me-too", with many obvious influences, and as a result, the game really doesn't have its own unique feel.
