"Super Dragon 'Burninates' Boredom"
Super Dragon is a classic tale you've all heard before: a famous, handsome, amazing, movie star dragon is super successful until the day it is discovered he has no teeth, and then embarks on a quest to fill his mouth with all the teeth he can get. That old story...
Developer Fifth Wonder has created a brand new physics puzzle experience for all ages that manages to entertain for extended periods of time without wearing you out.
As Smokey the Dragon, you are given the power to breathe fireballs from your mouth while trying to destroy obstacles standing in the way of your coveted teeth. Refrigerators, television sets, couches, blocks of ice, washing machines, toilets, and so much more are somehow stacked in between you and the goal. It's your duty to work around the varying weather conditions and figure out the best way to get it. Rain will render your fire ineffective, lightning storms will damage Smokey, and if too much debris falls on him, it's game over!
There is strategy involved in Super Dragon. Luckily, there are also power-ups that will make things much more accessible. Some levels flat out require you to use them. Smokey can collect different hats throughout the game, such as an umbrella hat which shields your fireballs from the rain, a football helmet that allows you to be invulnerable against damage, a spartan helmet that will rain down fireballs from the sky, and so on. These special powers definitely add a new layer of gameplay to the mix.
Super Dragon is presented in bright, vivacious colors that resemble an energetic cartoon. Every image in the game is gorgeous and fits perfectly into the environment. At no point during my experience did I encounter any slow down or issues, other than my own frustration at not being able to solve a puzzle correctly. Explosions, fireballs, smoke; it all looks gorgeous and in style with the game.
Sound is not very varied, but the music and effects that are present in Super Dragon are light and fun, something that is required if you're to be playing for a long while. You can't afford to be annoyed the entire time you're "burninating" the countryside.
While there is multiplayer available in Super Dragon, I was not able to find anyone to play with online. Therefore I cannot make a fair assessment on that. I can only imagine destroying things versus a friend or stranger would be just as fun.
Super Dragon is a great way to spend 99 cents. It definitely keeps you occupied and intrigued for hours on end. Your brain will frustrate you for not being able to figure out what piece of rubbish to blow up in your quest for teeth but it's very much worth it.
